Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM), Spain
Felipe Gándara is currently a Staff Scientist at the Materials Science Institute of
Madrid (ICMM), which is part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He is
author of over 65 research papers, and six patents, and during his career he has been
involved in multiple Global Science Initiatives. After completing his doctoral studies
in 2009, he was a post-doctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Omar Yaghi, first
at UC Los Angeles, and then at UC Berkeley.
In 2014, he joined ICMM, where he is now leading new research lines focused on the
development of reticular materials for applications in energy and sustainability fields.
His approach involves the realization of materials with higher levels of complexity
through the controlled combination and distribution of multiple, different building
components. To this end, a combination of synthetic, simulation, and advanced structural
and crystallographic studies are followed, as a way to realize materials with new
and enhanced reactivities.
