Born in Cork Ireland (1958) and took First Class Hons BSc in Biochemistry at University College Cork (UCC) in 1980. PhD (1985) Trinity College Dublin, DSc (2009) for published work National University of Ireland. 2013-2016;    Head of School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC. 2017-present; Dean and Professor of Biochemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE.   Research interests: Environmental toxicology, detoxification and stress-response proteins, nanotoxicology, redox proteomics in oxidative stress, hypertension and anoxia. Memberships: Member of American Chemical Society and British Biophysical Society. Editorial Boards: Toxins, Drug Testing and Analysis. Publications: four books including two editions of textbook Physical Biochemistry: Principles and Applications (Wileys, 2000, 2009); 132 peer-reviewed publications [approx. 5,000 citations, h-index = 35 (WoS & Scopus), 42 (GS)]. PhD Supervision/examining: 18 PhDs and externally examined 25+ PhDs across Europe and Asia. Grant reviewing: NSF (USA), BBSRC and MRC (UK), ANR (France) and NWO (Netherlands).
