Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, UAE
Dr. Ahmed H. Hassan Al-Marzouqihas received hisBSc fromOregon State UniversityinBiochemistry& Biophysicsin 1993andMSc from the same institution in Genetics in 1997. For his PhD, he joined the Department ofBiochemistry & Molecular Biologyat thePennsylvania State Universityand graduatedin 2002. He is currently anAssociate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecule Biology at the
College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), UAEU. He has been working in the area
of Molecular and Cellular Biology formore than 2 decades.
His research interests focuses onunderstanding the basic concepts of how genes are controlled by epigentic marks and
how that affects cancer initiation and progression. Dr. Al-Marouqi’s focus has specifically
been on studying the functions of chromatin modifying complexes in order to understand
how they regulate genes and how their misregulation can lead to various diseases including
cancer. His work has resulted in numerous publications in international peer-reviewed high
ranking journals such as Cell, Molecular Cell, MCB, PNAS, NAR, and JBC. On the basis
of his ongoing work and based on his publications,Dr. Al-Marzouqi has acquired research grants from the International Center for Genetic
Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB),the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research, the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical
Research (DHFMR), the Emirates Foundation, the UAEU, as well as other organizations.
Dr. Al-Marzouqi is also very active in training both undergraduate and graduate students
in Molecular Biology to help prepare the next generation of scientists within the
UAE.He has also served in administrative positions, for over 6 years, at the CMHS as the
