Dale Ray’s experiences spans over 30 years and includes leadership roles in Graduate
Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, departmental and health system’s
operations, practice management, patient safety, health care quality, and risk. Dale
practiced clinically over 25 years at a level-one trauma center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Dale worked for the ACGME for seven years as an inaugural member of the Clinical Learning
Environment Review (CLER) team. He conducted over 200 site reviews, leading over
half. The teams provided feedback to the hospital’s GME and leadership teams to improve
patient safety and health care quality, and to increase engagement of GME team in
these intiatives. He implemented several of the CLER program’s most important initiatives
and contributed to over two dozen published reports of national findings.
Prior to joining the ACGME, Dale served at every level of GME in Grand Rapids, including
as emergency medicine program director, Designated Institutional Official, and CEO
of Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners. His efforts as a faculty member were directed
at creating solutions to vexing educational challenges. He also was the director for
the Late Clinical Experience. responsible for the educational programs and policies
for 400 medical students at seven Michigan State University campuses
