Dr. Alaa, a board-certified Internist, is renowned for his dual role as a hospitalist and primary care physician at the International Medical Center (IMC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His commitment extends beyond clinical practice to the realm of medical education, particularly in Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Currently, he serves as the Executive Director for Academic Affairs and Research Center at IMC, a position that underscores his leadership in medical education. Additionally, as the Program Director for Internal Medicine Residency Training, Dr. Alaa is dedicated to crafting and implementing transformative learning experiences that are learner-centric, ensuring the holistic development of medical residents.
A significant focus of Dr. Alaa's research and practice lies in the professional identity formation of physicians. He is deeply involved in exploring the effectiveness of formative assessment and coaching models in medical training, a crucial aspect of cultivating the professional growth and identity of physicians. His approach in developing residency programs is unique, aiming to balance the impartation of clinical competency with the nurturing of each physician's professional identity.
Dr. Alaa's commitment to faculty development is further exemplified by his role as a certified Facilitator with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) for Train of the Trainers (TOT) in Graduate Medical Education. His qualifications are complemented by his certification as a FIRSTmed ADLX Designer and Facilitator, and as a Gallup Certified Strength Coach. These certifications not only validate his expertise but also reflect his holistic approach to medical education, seamlessly integrating traditional medical training with innovative teaching methodologies and strength-based coaching strategies.
