Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU)
Dr Liesl Visser is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Mohammed Bin Rashid
University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) since 2023. She started as the Family
Medicine Discipline Lead and had subsequently taken on other roles such as Phase 3
Co-Director for Curriculum and Student Matters, and Co-Lead of the Longitudinal Resilience
Course. She actively contributes to curriculum innovation, student support, and assessment
governance.
With a strong foundation in health professions education and leadership, Dr Visser
brings a systems-focused, learner-centred approach to curriculum design and clinical
training. Prior to joining MBRU, she was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape
Town, where she pioneered and directed the Saldanha Bay Rural Training Platform—establishing
innovative rural, interprofessional, and community-embedded training models for undergraduate
and postgraduate learners.
Her work bridges clinical excellence, educational innovation, and workforce development,
with particular interest in resilience, emotional intelligence, and preparing future-ready
doctors for diverse healthcare settings.
