is a 4th year Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. She is
the graduate research assistant for the Institute of Museum and Library Services research
grant (LG-37-19-0078-19-0) to study the application of computational methods and resources to large corpora
of electronic theses and dissertations.
Banerjee’s research involves working with natural language processing, information
retrieval to increase and improve computational access to scholarly big data. ETDs,
typically distributed as PDFs, don’t have a computer-readable structure. Thus, identifying
structure becomes a crucial task that aids in the computational analysis of such documents.
Prior to her graduate studies, she worked as an Assistant Systems Engineer working
on developing Android applications. She completed her undergraduate degree in Computer
Science and Engineering from the West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, India.
