The IT Showcase is a technology forum designed for school students (Grades 6-12) from various areas across the UAE to showcase their research and theories in AI in Sustainability to their peers, university students, and academics. This day-long event will be held in conjunction with the IT Marathon and is open to students in the UAE. Students are strongly encouraged to consider the quality and complexity of their projects, covering a wide range of relevant areas and topics, such as Smart Houses, Smart City, Smart School, Smart Energy Management technology, Precision Agriculture intelligent technologies, Carbon Footprint Reduction, Renewable Energy Forecasting, Eco-Friendly Supply Chain, Green Building Design, and more.

At the initial stage you need to send a short video (60 seconds maximum about your project) or abstract (upto 150 words). Once the initial screening phase is completed, participants are required to submit a 60-second video showcasing a fully functional demonstration of their projects. After successfully completing the initial screening phase, participants are expected to submit a 60-second video demonstrating the full working demo of their projects. Additionally, they are required to showcase their projects at the event where a panel of professional judges will evaluate each project and select the top three best projects, with prizes awarded for first, second, and third place. The winning team will receive a trophy, medals, and valuable prizes.

Rules for the IT marathon UAEU:

• The IT Showcase is open only to school students based in the UAE, from grades 6 to 12.
• Each team is consist of 2 to 4 students.
• Every team must have a supervisor.
• Upon registration, each team must submit a short video (maximum 60 seconds) or abstract (upto 150 words) of the project by Sept. 15^th, 2023 using the above link. The video must contain a brief overview of the project, the platform on which project has been developed and the application domain.
• Upon passing the initial screening, participants who have been notified via confirmation email to advance to the second phase are required to submit a 60-second video showcasing a fully functional demonstration of their project by October 22^nd, 2023.

• Participants with selected projects will be notified via email. The final notification to attend the showcase is expected to be sent by 1^st of Nov. 2023.

• Participants must adhere to the submission deadline for the project videos and abstract, and any delay in submission will result in disqualification from the competition.
• All information provided must be accurate and considered final as no changes will be permitted.
• The projects submitted for registration must be original, innovative, and creative.
• Only newly developed projects will be accepted.
• Each team is obligated to develop and present a project on the showcase day.
• The projects will be showcased to the general public, and at least one team member must be present at all times during the exhibition to explain their project to the public.
• Each project team must deliver a 10-minute overview of their project, covering two areas: (1) a detailed description of the project, and (2) a fully functional demonstration.
• Participants are responsible for arranging all necessary accessories, such as computers, monitors, mouse, keyboards, etc. The College of Information Technology, UAEU will not be held accountable for any damage to the teams' belongings.

Showcase Criteria:

• Projects must revolve around the theme of AI in Sustainability.
• Projects need to be sufficiently complex to demonstrate most of the development lifecycle phases, either software or hardware.
• Projects relying solely on pre-packaged solutions or APIs (such as Lego) will not have a high chance of winning an award unless team members can show real implementation.
• Projects must feature novel ideas developed by the participants.
• The showcase must include a functional prototype, working product, or demonstration of the project.

 

Judging Rules:

• A group of judges (maximum 3) will be assigned for every project. Each assigned judge will evaluate each project independently. A period of 5 minutes at most is allocated for each project.
• Participants are required to be available at the time of evaluation. Failure in appearing before the judge at the time of evaluation will automatically disqualify the project from the competition.
• The decision of the judges will be final (not open for teams) and cannot be challenged.
• The IT Showcase committee reserves the right to disqualify any participant who fails to adhere to the above-mentioned rules.
