How to Write an Abstract

Who is eligible to participate?

• All undergraduate students from UAEU and other higher education institutions in the UAE are eligible to submit their abstract proposals.
• Only registered and active undergraduate students are eligible to participate.
• All presenters attending from external institutions will need to undergo a routine security clearance process to be able to present at the conference. Further details will be provided on acceptance of your proposal.

How to choose a research project for the conference?

• You can submit an abstract for any research project you have already completed, individually or as a group (max. 4 participants).
• You may only submit an abstract for your own original research.
• If you’re submitting an abstract for a group project, you should get permission from all group members beforehand.

What to submit?

• You need to submit a well-written abstract (max. 200 words) of your research project. Please see the section on ABSTRACT WRITING for guidance.
• In addition to the abstract, we also require the following details from you:
  1.  Your contact details                       
  2.  Co-presenters’ details (if any)                    
  3. Your institute’s details                  
  4. Your research supervisor’s contact details
  5. Type of presentation: oral presentation (15 minutes) or poster presentation

How to submit?

• All applicants must submit their abstracts online using the Abstract Submission link.
• The submission deadline is 24, February 2019.

What happens after you submit your abstract?

• Abstracts will be reviewed by a selection panel from your institute/college.

• Your institute/UAEU college will select the best abstract proposals as follows:

UAEU – max. 7 research projects per college (15 minute oral presentations: max. 4 per college| poster presentations: max. 3 per college)

External institutes – max. 4 research projects per institute (15 minute oral presentations: max. 2 per institute| posters: max. 2 per college)

• All applicants will be notified about the outcome of their application by email.

Abstract Writing Guidelines

• You should write your abstract in English unless you completed your research project for a course delivered in Arabic.
• Your abstract should be a one paragraph summary (max. 200 words) of your research project.
• Abstracts should include the following points (only!):
  1. Background about the topic / problem that you investigated
  2. Aim(s) of your research project
  3. Research methods
  4. Results
  5. Conclusion(s)
• You should also provide a title for your research project (max. 20 words).
