The College of Business and Economics organized an Entrepreneurship Day on the 6th of February, 2018 as part of UAEU Innovation Week. The goal of the open day is to
promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the UAE and to learn more
about the achievements and experiences of students at both local and international
levels.
Research projects that became international companies
Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy, Executive Director of the International Council of Small Businesses
(ICSB) gave an overview on Small Businesses entrepreneurship around the world, and
its history from the 1950s to the 21st century. He elaborated on how research impacts innovations and projects that have
later transformed into international companies, such as Nike, Microsoft, Apple, and
many others which received funds that allowed it become key players in a number of
industries around the world.
Research is the core of innovation
Mr. Bear Eckman spoke, Deputy Director of HMD Global, Nokia MENA Region, gave a presentation
on Nokia’s success journey. The company has achieved paradigm shift in developing
modern applications in line with international customer standards. The company has
also succeeded to develop partnerships with giant institutions in building electronic
communication devices, information providers and giant Internet companies such as
Google. In addition, the company has worked on enhancing the efforts of knowledge
integration with universities and innovation centers.He explained that leadership,
innovation and creativity in the field of entrepreneurship start from research laboratories
and innovation centers in universities.
