“Innovative Digital Fabrication and Arduino Programming” Workshop
College of Education in cooperation with Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished
Academic Performance organized a workshop on “Innovative Digital Fabrication Lab and
Arduino Programming in Education”. The workshop highlighted 2 student experiences
of using Arduino programming in production.
The 1st student experience was by Asraa and Nassibah Abdulrahman Al Yousif whom showcased
their experience in producing a “Comfort Cart” which is a shopping cart designed to
ease the burden of shopping for women, the elderly and people of determination by
helping them avoid back pain as the cart monitors the weight of the purchases and
elevates the heavy ones. While the 2nd student experience was about a fire alarm system
designed to look like a child’s toy and is called “Survivor – Nagi” where it alerts
to any fire in its vicinity. This was presented by Maitha Yahia who in turn thanked
‘Fab Lab” for their efforts in transforming her idea into a reality and with giving
her the opportunity to give some workshops to school and university thus helping her
move from the student role to the teacher role which she enjoyed tremendously.
Fab Lab UAE is the first comprehensive educational Fab-Lab in the UAE was established
by Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance with
main objective being to create an innovation-supporting environment and integrated
infrastructure by providing community centers (fab labs) that provide all the segments
