H. E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh - Cultural Adviser to H. H. the President of the UAE and
Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University - honored a group of scientists
and researchers from faculty members and students who obtained patents for the year
2020, in a special ceremony held "remotely", in appreciation of their academic achievements

H. E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Chancellor of the UAE University, welcomed the participants
and said, "Today we celebrate the intellectual efforts of those who have made unique
achievements and inventions that contribute to achieving the university's mission
to support innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity locally and globally."
He pointed out that "when looking at the list of patented works across various academic
disciplines, there is a common denominator, which is the enhancement of human life
and well-being. These achievements serve human health in a number of areas such as
technology and medical equipment, and help in promoting productivity in mechanical
and chemical engineering-related matters.” He added, “UAE University-University of
the Future- works with dedication to prepare generations of innovators as a platform
for creativity and creative innovation in activating human capabilities and natural
and economic resources to achieve prosperity.
Prof. Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research, said, “As part of the university’s
initiative to become an advanced research university during the next few years, the
university continues to provide all the support and resources necessary for all faculty
members, researchers and students to conduct high-quality research that will enhance
innovation and patents. Research, innovation and creative activities have become an
essential pillar of the university, transforming the role of the UAE University from
an information provider to a knowledge creator. He pointed out that the university's
plan will improve research laboratories and provide all the requirements for conducting
research and lab experiments. He also noted that despite of Covid-19 pandemic, the
number of applications submitted for patent registration was 47 applications for applied
patents, and 33 patents were granted during the year 2020.
He explained that obtaining a patent is a good achievement, but it is not the end
of the road. We need to see many of these patents to be marketed, and for this purpose,
we will present a new award for the marketing of patents and inventions, within the
framework of an integrated plan to develop academic research to serve the strategic
plans and the requirements of the UAE National Agenda, and achieve outstanding research
outputs and patents.
