UAEU organizes honoring ceremony for researchers who have obtained patents
Saeed Ahmed Ghobash, Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, honored this
morning a group of scholars and researchers from the faculty and students of the UAE
University who received patents in 2019 in a special ceremony in honor of their achievements
and inventions, in the presence of Prof. Ghaleb Al Hadrami Al Breiki and a number
of leaders, faculty members and students.
Prof. Ahmed Murad, Associate Provost for Research, said that the official interest
in inventions in the UAE reflects the vision of the leadership in foreseeing the future.
The UAEU inventions undoubtedly contribute to building the knowledge economy, providing
solutions to challenges, achieving sustainable development and wellbeing, and supporting
the UAE inventions. He pointed out that the UAE University is constantly supporting
qualitative research to achieve its mission and vision. This is evident through the
noticeable increase in patent applications, achievements and awards received, provision
of many grants, and focus on strengthening partnerships, providing support for research
through projects and programs, and supporting students in promoting cognitive approach
through investments in the research capabilities of talented faculty members and students
to become future pioneers.
He said supporting research projects and inventions is one of the priorities of the
university's strategy to be a national flagship university that focuses on preparing
qualitative research with the industrial sector partners in providing research solutions
to the challenges of the UAE and the region. It comes within the framework of an integrated
plan to develop research at the university to serve the strategic plans and the requirements
of the UAE National Agenda and achieve outstanding research outputs and patents. The
Office of the Associate Provost for Research is mainly concerned with supporting creativity,
intellectual property and the rights of researchers from faculty members and students.
He noted that 95% is increase in patents granted in 2019 compared to 2018, and that
the UAE University continues to progress in patents and research. The number of inventions
at the university reached 128, including 39 in 2019, the College of Engineering obtained
18 patents, 6 patents for the College of Science, 6 for the College of Medicine and
Health Sciences, 7 for the College of Food and Agriculture, and 2 patents for the
College of Information Technology.
