UAEU Innovations Provide Proactive Solutions to the Next Fifty Years Challenges
Within the activities of UAEU Innovates
The United Arab Emirates University organizes activities during the first week of
the UAE Innovation Month. The university’s centers and colleges conducted a series
of events from workshops on innovation management through scientific planning, designing
a robot to overcome barriers and innovation in water resources management, and innovation
challenge by the UAEU Youth for students from all colleges.
Student Innovations
The Innovator Student / Saeed Al Yahyai - UAEU presents an App called Sporch
It is a program that helps enhance communication, gathering and meeting between those
interested in certain kinds of sports. There is a special group for each kind of sport
that provides contacts of sport coaches and safe sport training places and gyms.
Innovator student / Rania Hesham also presented an innovation, REDY VIVA Sort smartly:
Rania said about her new innovation: This innovation is a recycling bin for waste,
but this bin is different because it is divided into four sections. Each section has
a sensor that helps us to organize the process of sorting different types of plastic,
paper or metal waste.
Student Aisha Al-Kaabi new innovation: fire Extinguisher Drone
Al-Kaabi, the innovator, indicated that the idea of the project helps extinguish fires
faster, and each drone carries four balls, and each ball contains potassium carbonate
with water. It is controlled by the app and camera. The Civil Defense can determine
the number of balls that are thrown on the fire to extinguish the fire. When the ball
is thrown on the fire, a chemical reaction occurs by cooling and reducing the oxygen
in the room or the target place for 30 minutes, controlling the fire until the civil
defense arrives at the scene of the fire.
Innovation in Rater Resource Management
The National Water Center at the UAE University conducted a workshop on “Innovation
in Water Resources Management”, which brought together a number of experts, scientists,
students and those who are interested in water resources under one roof to discuss
innovative topics in the areas of water resources management. The speakers discussed
the latest studies and results on water resources and exchanged their experiences
with the university attendees. It presented the most important researches, findings,
recommendations and innovation methods in managing environmental resources. Dr. Mohammad
Al Zaabi - Assistant Vice President of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah for
Community Service Affairs - presented a paper on the link between energy, water and
food. In addition, Dr. Mahmoud Hajjaj - from the College of Engineering at the UAE
university - discussed a study on non-traditional alternatives to the rainwater drainage
system in Khalifa City and West Baniyas. The workshop concluded with an open discussion
on the methods of managing water in the future.
Youth Circle" Student Seminars Discuss National Innovation Strategy
The College of Business and Economics conducted an event to support innovators and
young entrepreneurs. Dr. Maysam Al Abadi, Professor at the College of Business and
Economics, indicated that the challenge is divided into 3 student seminars that discuss
the challenges in the National Innovation Strategy. It is intended to motivate innovation
in a number of key national sectors through the presentation of the ideas of the students
participating in the seminars. It is also intended to anticipate the future and ask
a question “How can technology achieve a radical transformation?” 3 winning student
teams were also announced in the challenge, who presented innovative ideas in a number
of areas, the most important of which is environmental and health innovation.
