Food and Agriculture Week 2020 Activities Kicked Off
H. E. Maryam Al Muhairi, Minister of State, for the future food security, today inaugurated
the activities of the College of Food and Agriculture Week 2020. It is organized by
the UAE University during the period from 24-26 February. It aims at shedding light
on the future vision of food and agricultural sciences, nutrition and health, food
sciences, and nutrition sciences, livestock and fisheries, horticulture, agricultural
business management, and veterinary medicine. It is conducted under the patronage
of H. E. Saeed Ahmed Ghobash - Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University.
H. E. Maryam Al Muhairi, UAE Minister of Food Security, reviewed various activities,
products, technology, and research projects and student innovations in the college
from various departments, during the tour of the Food and Agriculture Exhibition.
It also includes a theatrical performance and display of an artistic painting on environment
entitled "Trees", by students of Kindergarten and Neama School in Al Ain. The participating
companies, institutions and entities also provided many products and services related
to agriculture, animal and food safety, in addition to informing visitors about primary
care methods for plants and soilless farming, in addition to smart gardening.
Prof. Bhanu Chaudhry - Dean of the College of Food and Agriculture pointed out that
marking this week annually highlights the importance of the role of food, agriculture
and livestock in enhancing food security, transferring knowledge and presenting best
practices and techniques to achieve sustainability. It is also intended to enhance
efforts in society and introduce the importance of the agricultural and livestock
and food safety and development of the food security system, national economic diversification
and building partnerships with educational institutions, bodies and companies to exchange
experiences. He said that the Food and Agriculture Week 2020, which lasts until the
30th of this month, would focus on the various departments of the college from food,
nutrition and health and integrated agriculture, veterinary medicine, and research
stations. It is an opportunity for college students, graduates, faculty members, staff
and food and agriculture bodies to exchange experiences and see the achievements and
developments in the sciences of agriculture and nutrition. It also plays a role in
enriching the relations of cooperation between institutions and the university and
introducing students to applied experience and engaging them in community activities
that develop their capabilities and enhance the practical side in their studies and
learn about developments in this field.
Food and Agriculture Week participating bodies include Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi,
Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, Al Ain Municipality - Public Slaughterhouse
Department, Al Ain Zoo, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, International Fund
for Houbara Conservation, National Feed and Flour Production and Marketing Co, New
York University Abu Dhabi , Liwa Dates Company, Clinic Hospital and many other companies.
