Graduated from the Institute of Physics, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences
in 2011, Dr. Syed Rizwan joined the department of Physics & Astronomy at National
University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in January 2015 and is currently working
as a Professor of Physics. He has also been serving as the Head of the Department
of Physics and Astronomy from the last 04 years. He has supervised 04 PhD students,
36 Master students and more than 50 undergraduate students. Dr. Syed Rizwan’s current
research group (Advanced Two-dimensional Materials & Devices: www.atmdevices.com) is focused on exploring and tuning exceptional properties of two-dimensional materials,
such as MXene and MBene, for various applications in the fields of energy storage
devices such as supercapacitors, data storage, magnetism and photocatalysis. He has
published more than 95 ISI-Indexed Publications in well-renowned journals such as
Chemical Engineering Journal, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Physical Review
Letters, Applied Physics Letters, Carbon, Advanced Electronic Materials, Materials
Today Physics, Materials Today Chemistry, Ceramics International, etc.
Dr. Syed Rizwan has also completed two locally funded projects worth Rs.33.4 Million rupees (238,570 U.S dollar) and an international joint Pakistan – United States project worth US $ 209,990/-. He also completed an international project under Germany’s DAAD-funded agency.

Dr. Syed Rizwan was awarded the ‘University Best Researcher Award in Natural & Biosciences’ and was also awarded twice the ‘School Best Researcher Award’ in the years 2017 and the year 2021. Dr. Syed Rizwan has well-established international research collaborations with researchers in China, the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Czech Republic and Australia.
