Founded in 2007, the Middle East and North Africa Writing Centers Alliance (MENAWCA) is a professional network dedicated to supporting student writing in the Middle East and North Africa. Its objectives are to foster best practice in MENA writing centers, provide professional development and networking opportunities for writing center staff, raise awareness of the value of writing centers as an educational resource, and promote writing center research in the MENA region. The Student Academic Success Program (SASP) of University College, UAEU, offers academic support to UAEU students from the time they join the university through to the postgraduate level. SASP’s three units - Education Support, Academic Advising and Skills Development - work closely with UAEU students to help them fulfil their academic potential, and build the 21st century skills necessary to be successful in their future lives and careers. SASP’s Learning Centers, comprising the Writing Centers, Speaking Centers, Reading Centers, Tutorial Centers, and Independent Learning Centers, provide one-to-one and small group tutorials, workshops and independent learning resources which help students improve their academic performance and develop effective communication skills.
