Welcome

The 25th Conference and General Meeting of The International Environmetrics Society (TIES) will be held at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) from the 22 to 25 of November 2015. As the founder of TIES, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to participate in this important event in this leading country. In 1989, the founding TIES conference was held in Cairo, Egypt. As such, it is particularly fitting that the 25th conference will be held in the Middle East.

This year’s theme will be “Quantitative Methods for Environmental Economics, Sustainability and Indicators” and will provide a platform for discussion on the linkages between a healthy environment and economic growth. Quantitative methods are central to analysing such interactions through the development of a) proper techniques for data collection, data analysis and interpretation; and b) development of predictive models for policy-making and assessment. For these reasons TIES conferences have always been interdisciplinary, facilitating interaction between subject matter scientists and quantitative scientists.

The conference will provide an opportunity for cooperation between scientists from the Arab world and the TIES community. Examples of possible areas of cooperation include training, technical assistance, and knowledge exchange, as well as sharing practices, experience and opinions.

The host of this year's conference, UAEU, is the oldest university in the country, has excellent facilities for the delegates of TIES2015 to enjoy. In this regard, I would like to express my gratitude to H.E. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak al Nahyan, the Chancellor of the UAEU, Prof. Geralyn McClure Franklin, the Dean of the College of Business and Economics, and  Prof. Taoufik Zoubeidi the Chair of the Department of Statistics for their support of the conference. I would also like to thank the local organizing committee for their dedication and commitment in fulfilling this major responsibility.

I welcome the participation of all delegates of TIES2015, and look forward to fruitful discussion and collaboration. I also hope that you make the most of your visit to experience the many wonders of the United Arab Emirates and enjoy the country’s warm hospitality. I extend to you a very warm  Salaam.
